This is a modified Grassroots G-Bricoleur electric guitar in Black finish. Grassroots Guitars is one of ESP’s brands, and is positioned as an affordable, high quality instrument with surprising levels of craftsmanship & quality at such a low price point. This particular model is a signature model for Takuro Sugawara, lead singer & rhythm guitarist for the Rock Band 9mm Parabellum Bullet. Made in Korea, this instrument features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a ToM-style bridge & stop bar tailpiece, along with a set of sealed tuning machines. This instrument has been modified with a set of active EMG P60, P90 size humbucking pickups. These are wired to a 30way toggle switch & master volume & tone controls. One control is no longer wired into the circuit.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a profile which might be described as a ’D’ shape, with a slightly flattened area to the centre rear which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning & easy reach across the register. The Rosewood of the fretboard is pleasant under the fingers & provides a smooth & durable playing surface to explore. With a 25” scale & 12” radius, the playing experience falls somewhere between Fender & Gibson, and feels well equipped for any playing style or technique you could throw at it.
Amplified, the pair of active EMG P60 pickups deliver thick, full-bodied & heavy tones by the bucketload. The P60 is a P90 sized humbucking pickup, based on the EMG 60. Being active, the clean tone is balanced & sounds slightly compressed - perfect for crystalline clean sounds. Of course driving the amp hard is where the excitement begins - the pickups saturate into a full-bore distortion tone with ease, crushing rhyhtm chords & heavy riffing sound huge, and push your playing through even the densest of mixes. A unique instrument which is well equipped for wherever the gig takes you.
